Penny Social / Chinese Auction
First time hosting a penny social? Or thinking about changing up the format of your next auction, but aren't sure what a penny social is?
A penny social, also known as a Chinese auction, has elements of both an auction and a raffle, which make it perfect for fund-raisers or charity events. Bidders purchase tickets, which they can use to bid on any item. The more tickets a bidder uses for that item, the better their chance of winning, as the tickets are drawn in conventional raffle style at the auction's conclusion. Each individual ticket a bidder buys may cost as little as a penny, but can be asigned any value. If you're hosting a penny social, all you need is a container for each item that bidders can place tickets in.
